Funding summer holidays

The Budding Foundation supports families in need (through partner charities and organisations), with all sorts of requests, including much-needed breaks and holidays that they otherwise couldn't afford.

We have recently funded a Butlins summer holiday break for a single parent with 3 children under the age of 11. Mum was people trafficked here as a student from North Africa and kept in abusive conditions until she managed to escape after the birth of her third child.

A London DV refuge helped her to move to Brighton. At that point charity 'Thousand 4 1000' became involved and helped her with accommodation and to sort out her leave to remain in this country.

Mum is a remarkable young woman determined to provide a secure and stable future for her children.  She completed an access course to get into university to study for a nursing degree and is about to embark on her third year.

However, as a new immigrant she is not entitled to a student loan and the family have been living for years on the breadline. The long Summer holidays are particularly difficult as the family are unable to afford activities that many children take for granted.

Jenny from Thousand 4 1000 said: "The Budding Foundation has been an enormous contribution to the quality of the children’s lives over the years providing them with 2 summer holidays and many grants for various days out. The family are incredibly grateful."

We have also recently funded a school residential trip for two young people, as they will be going into Year 6 in September and they have never been on a school holiday.

The girl is the second oldest of six children, mum is a single parent and she receives Special Educational Needs support and free school meals. She has nurtured her three younger siblings at school especially when mum had the last child two years ago. The school feels she would really benefit from experiencing the activity holiday that PGL can offer children. This will possibly be the only holiday she has ever had.

The boy is the oldest of three children. He has an Education, Health & Communication Plan and receives free school meals. Mum is a single parent. Again, the school feels he would benefit from a school holiday with a variety of activities. He has not experienced a family holiday ever (as far as we are aware) and definitely hasn't had the opportunity to take part in the types of events PGL could offer.

The holiday for both children, is booked for a weekend in June 2025, at the PGL Centre at Osmington Bay in Dorset.

All donations to The Budding Foundation go directly to support funding for requests such as these, as well as funding hundreds of gardening projects for young people. Thank you all for your support!
